Gospel artists Mary Mary, Smokie Norful and Marvin Sapp are among the gospel artists that have been nominated for the 2009 Soul Train Awards.

With four nods each, Beyonce, Maxwell and Decatur-native Keri Hilson lead the pack of nominees of the 2009 Soul Train Awards, which will be handed out next month.

Grammy winner Beyonce is vying for the trophy in four categories: Best Female R&B/Soul Artist, Album of the Year for “I Am…Sasha Fierce,” and Song of the Year and Record of the Year (Songwriter Award) for “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).”

R&B songstress Keri Hilson rivals both Beyonce and Maxwell in the Song of the Year category for her work with Lil Wayne on “Turnin’ Me On” and in the Record of the Year (Songwriter Award) category for “Knock You Down.” She’s also recognized for Best Collaboration with Kanye West and Ne-Yo for “Knock You Down” and is in the running for Best New Artist.

Maxwell’s first new material since 2001 is also being recognized. The R&B musician is nominated for Best Male R&B/Soul Artist, Album of the Year for “BLACKsummer’snight” and Song of the Year as well as Record of the Year (Songwriter Award) for “Pretty Wings.”

Academy Award-nominated actors Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson will host the Nov. 3 awards ceremony, which will be filmed and simulcast Nov. 29 on both BET and CENTRIC.

The show will also honor artists Chaka Khan, Charlie Wilson, L.A. Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds with special music tributes. The late Michael Jackson will recognized for his icon status and dramatic showmanship with the Entertainer of the Year Award.

Toni Braxton, Erykah Badu, Fantasia, Chrisette Michele, Boyz II Men and Angie Stone will perform at the awards event, among others.
