Furniture Bank (FBMA) is the only agency in metro Atlanta area whose mission is to provide free furniture to people in need. In addition FBMA is the only organization providing individuals and families in need with access to a free warehouse for storage and trucks to pick-up furniture. FBMA helps clients coming out of homelessness that were able to secure housing; persons living with HIV/AIDS and those fleeing domestic violence.
The Furniture Bank: Started a Truck Driver Intern Program. Homeless persons intern at the Furniture Bank for 3-months and receive a scholarship to truck driver school. Interns obtain their CDL-A license and get jobs in the truck driving industry; purchased a warehouse in the West End of Atlanta and is currently raising funds to renovate this warehouse; provided free furniture to nearly 3,000 people; collaborated with over 150 other non-profit agencies; recycled over 420 tons that might otherwise go to a landfill.
