The movie’s director and Academy Award-nominee Angela Bassett shared secrets from the set, revealing that Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina was very outspoken in wanting to be cast in the role of Whitney but was ultimately denied. Since then, Bobbi Kristina has been outspoken about her disapproval for the upcoming film.

Last night Entertainment Tonight revealed behind the scenes footage of he film which will air next year.

According to the network, terms of music rights and clearances are still being negotiated, but R&B singer Deborah Cox will provide the vocals for Houston’s hit songs.

Houston’s family owns the rights to her music and is reportedly unhappy with the project. They are not involved in the film because they believe her story should be told on a larger stage.

“Whitney is certainly worthy of more than a television movie and if she were here today, this would not be happening,” said Pat Houston, the late singer’s former manager and sister-in-law.

Whitney’s mother released a statement via Entertainment Tonight

“Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family’s objections. No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby,” Cissy said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight. “In the two years since Whitney’s death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn’t know her.”

We will have to see how it all turn out.
