DAYTON — Federal agents on Thursday, Feb. 11, removed computers and several bins and boxes from the home of the Rev. Raleigh Trammell, the national board chairman of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Trammell is also chairman of the Dayton chapter of the SCLC and is a top official at the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. He is under investigation by the national SCLC along with the group’s treasurer, Spiver Gordon of Alabama, in the alleged misappropriation of $569,000.

Thursday morning, federal agents carrying search warrants entered Trammell’s home in Dayton, Ohio, the local SCLC headquarters and the home of Trammell’s daughter.

“I certainly want to know what’s going on. Everybody is being very courteous. I am providing the information that is required,” Trammell said as he was leaving SCLC headquarters Thursday around 11 a.m.

When asked what authorities were searching for, Trammell said “they want what you’ve been writing in the newspaper… that I’ve got $560,000.”

Trammell then left in a car with other officials and did not respond to questions about local SCLC expenditures.

At 11:10 a.m. seven FBI agents walked out of Goodwine’s home. They took a computer and at least eight boxes. The boxes were marked with phrases like ‘check stubs’ and ‘articles of incorporation.’ They left the residence about 11: 20 a.m. The agents would not discuss details of what they retrieved. One did say Goodwine was at the home when they arrived but soon left.

At 1:07 p.m. Trammell arrived and entered SCLC headquarters. He did not respond to reporters questions surrounding today’s raid.

At 1:15 p.m. federal agents begin removing items out the side door of the headquarters and loading them in to a silver Chevy SUV.

U.S. Justice Department spokesman Fred Alverson said the searches are in relation to an investigation in to SCLC financial activities. No criminal charges have been filed.

A faction of the SCLC board has accused Trammell and Gordon of embezzling at least $569,000 from the national organization, and is seeking criminal probes in Georgia in Alabama.
