Atlanta police have launched an internal investigation into Tyler Perry’s claim he was racially profiled by two white officers who pulled his car over, CNN reports.
The Atlanta based filmmaker put a post on his Facebook page recently describing a tense encounter with police, which he suggested “could have turned for the worse.”
“It was so hostile,” wrote Perry. “I was so confused. It was happening so fast that I could easily see how this situation could get out of hand very quickly. I didn’t feel safe at all.”
The police investigation began Tuesday. No action has been taken against the officers involved.
Perry acknowledged that he made a left turn from a right lane, which a police officer told him was illegal and the reason for stopping him. Perry said he learned the lane change practice from his security team as a way to see if people are following him.
Perry said he was stopped by two white officers and the situation was only diffused when a black officer arrived and recognized him.
“This officer was a black guy,” Perry wrote. “He took one look at me and had that ‘Oh No’ look on his face.”
Perry posed a question to his readers: “Do you see how quickly this could have turned for the worse?”
The traffic stop happened near Perry’s southwest Atlanta movie studio last month, just days before the filmmaker hosted a high-profile fundraising event featuring President Obama.
