This week on Money Monday with Erica Campbell, Dave Anderson—known to many as the Business Bully—joined us with an honest and heartfelt challenge: “If somebody else writes your paycheck, then they control your peace. Ownership is job one.” With those words, Dave set the tone for a conversation about reclaiming economic power and building Black wealth, right where you are.

Dave didn’t hold back about the realities our community faces: “The Black dollar leaves our hands in six hours while other communities keep it circulating for weeks.” His advice? Let’s change that together. He encouraged listeners to “shop Black, bank Black, and hire Black,” reminding us of the collective strength we have when we support our own.

But building wealth isn’t just about dollars and cents—it’s about legacy. Dave shared how he’s started treating his children as heirs, not liabilities, and urged us to bring financial discussions into our homes. “Normalize talking about what we do. Don’t wait until your child is 18 to start teaching them their value.”

When asked where to start, Dave was clear: “Start right where you are. Start at home.” He painted a powerful picture: if 1,000 church members each contributed $100 monthly, that’s $1.2 million a year to fund scholarships, help families, and transform lives right in our communities.

So here’s your call to action, from Dave and all of us at Money Monday: Take one intentional step this week. Circulate your dollar within your community. Have that honest talk about finances at dinner tonight. Whether you start a side hustle, support a Black business, or invest in your own future, remember—you have the power to do more than survive. You can build, grow, and thrive. Let’s build together!
