Todd Dulaney Talks New Music and Why He’ll Always Sing the Word of God

Todd Dulaney has built a powerful music ministry by doing something most gospel artists don’t: singing the Bible word-for-word. Joining Get Up Mornings with Erica Campbell, the singer-songwriter, worship leader, and former pro athlete sat down with Mr. Griff to discuss his latest track “Proverbs 3” and why singing scripture will always be his path.

Dulaney explained that “Proverbs 3” is inspired by one of his favorite verses: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” His idea was simple—if we learn our ABCs through song, why not learn the Word the same way?
“It’s one of the easiest scriptures,” he said. “I just figured—what better way to memorize God’s Word than to sing it?”
This approach, Dulaney revealed, also helps him stay true in his worship. “I’ve seen worship leaders get in trouble, flowing off emotion instead of truth. But if I’m just singing what God already said, He’s got to show up—and I can’t get it wrong.”
That conviction has carried Dulaney across continents. He recalled a moment in South Africa when a hotel cleaning lady greeted him with a lyric from his breakout song “Victory Belongs to Jesus.” It reminded him that even a “regular guy from the hood in Chicago” could be used by God to impact lives worldwide.
Mr. Griff, a longtime friend and fan, shared how Dulaney’s music helped him personally. During a difficult day in divorce court, he played “Victory Belongs to Jesus” on repeat—47 times. That day, he felt God speak to him and gave up the fight. “That music changed my heart,” Griff said.

The new album Promises isn’t just a greatest hits collection. It’s a reflection of Dulaney’s ongoing journey and commitment to gospel music. When asked if he ever thinks about trying other genres, Dulaney laughed.
“No way,” he said. “It’s worship forever. This is what I was born to do. Even if I wanted to quit, I couldn’t—God’s not done with me yet.”

As for what’s next? Dulaney has plenty of scripture left to cover. “I’ve only done like five or six songs straight from the Bible,” he said. “There’s still a lot of verses in that thing.”
With his passion, purpose, and playlist full of the Word, Todd Dulaney is far from finished—and the gospel world is better for it.
