A series of selfies comedian Chris Rock posted to Instagram recently is continuing the conversation surrounding police encounters with African-Americans.

The comedian shared photos of himself getting pulled over by police on three different occasions in the last two months. While he’s seen in the passenger, driver, and backseat, the comedian stays optimistic during each encounter, asking his fans via Twitter and Instagram to “wish him luck.”

He was also pulled over by the police around the same time last year:

Rock’s encounters are a reminder of his appearance on Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. During the incident, Rock (in the passenger seat), jokes about feeling safe because of who he was with. He also says his fame doesn’t change the stereotypes African-Americans face when they’re in the presence of a police officer.

“It’d be such a better episode if he pulled me to the side and beat the shit out of me, don’t you think? Now here’s the crazy thing: If you weren’t here, I’d be scared. I’m famous, still black. Right now, I’m looking for my license right now.”

Meanwhile, former Grey’s Anatomy actor Isaiah Washington shared his thoughts on the matter with CNN’s Don Lemon Wednesday night. From the looks of it, Rock drives a modest vehicle, but the actor suggests that Rock drive a less appealing car in an effort to adapt to his surroundings.

Washington says:

“We’ve been burdened for 400 years… We are in a situation where we have to survive in extreme circumstances with people who are angry and those who are practicing white supremacy — they are on the hunt and they are angry,” Washington said. “The onus is on us. If we don’t survive, we don’t live to fight another day — and that is what I was saying to adapt.”

We’re not so sure driving a beat-up car is going to help Rock. Check out the interview above and sound off below.
