Get On with It

For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.

I spoke with a woman who had been recently diagnosed with cancer. She admitted to me that although she had made a commitment to Christ, she had not been living as she should. She felt badly about the wasted years of her life.

“I have wasted so much time,” she told me.

“You can’t change that,” I said, “but you can still get in the race. So you are a late bloomer. Do something now. Start today. And then get on with it tomorrow and the next day and as many days as God gives you.” We prayed together and asked that God would heal her. But we also prayed that if God did not choose to heal her, He would use her during this time and give her strength.

Don’t feel that because you haven’t lived as you should have for some 10, 20, 30, 40—or however many years that you have lost your opportunity. Get in the race. There is still a place for you. There are opportunities that God will give you.

The Bible tells us that one day we all will stand before God and be held accountable. He will want to know what we did with the abilities, talents, resources, and time He gave us. So we need to ask ourselves, What am I doing with my life? Am I using what God has given me?

It is possible to have a saved soul and a lost life. How sad it would be to get to heaven with nothing to show for the time that God gave us. How much better it would be to hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” So let’s get on with God’s work.
