The Supreme Court has upheld one of President Obama’s signature achievements, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The landmark decision means the health care overhaul will continue to take effect over the next several years. The ruling is also a huge political victory for President Obama as he heads into the November election against Mitt Romney.
Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts announced the judgment and was the tie-breaking vote in the 5-4 decision.
The court’s four liberal justices, Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, joined Roberts in the decision.
