Higher Ground Empowerment Center, a church in Vine City, is thanking Occupy Atlanta for helping it to avoid foreclosure.
Pastor Dexter Johnson told the Associated Press the congregation will be allowed to stay in Higher Ground. He said the bank has agreed to work with the church to help pay its mortgage.
The church had taken out a loan to rebuild after being struck by the devastating tornado in 2008, and the church had struggled to pay its mortgage in recent months.
Pastor Johnson thanked members of Occupy Atlanta at a rally on Tuesday. Demonstrators had set up an encampment at the church.
