A Penske spokesman says a former employee was the gunman behind a deadly shooting spree Tuesday afternoon near Kennesaw.

Three people have been killed and two were injured around 2 p.m. at the Penske Truck Rental facility at 3011 Barrett Lakes Boulevard, near the intersection of Chastain Road., according to Officer Joe Hernandez with Cobb County police.

Four Penske employees and one customer were shot, according to Randy Ryerson, Penske spokesman.

The male shooter, who was wearing camouflage, was arrested without incident and is in custody, Hernandez said.

“He was pretty well surrounded,” Hernandez said.

The shooter was still on the scene when the 9-1-1 call was made, Hernandez said. The suspect was arrested nearly a mile away, at the intersection of McCollum Parkway and Duncan Road after he left the scene in a red pick-up truck.

Eyewitness Mike Robertson of Kennesaw said he was behind the suspect when about 15 police cars drove up and the pulled the man out of his vehicle.

Robertson described the suspect as an older white man with gray hair.

“It is a former employee,” Ryerson said of the shooter.

Hernandez believes the weapon has been recovered.

Mickey Lloyd, Cobb County director of public safety, told the AJC three of the victims were shot in the head.

The two other victims are reportedly in critical condition.

Four gunshot victims were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, according to Keith Bowermaster, hospital spokesman. Bowermaster declined to release information on fatalities.

As of 3:45 p.m., the suspect had not yet arrived at the Cobb County jail.
