Pastor Michael McBride of The Way Christian Center in West Berkeley talks about his newest initiative, the “Together We Vote” campaign, which aims to engage 1 million voters of faith nationally. With the stakes high for minority communities in the upcoming election, the initiative is especially significant in 2016.
Sheena Meade, a policy advocate and youth organizer, advocates for voter rights of the formerly incarcerated. In her state of Florida, she says, 1.8 million people cannot vote because of prior felony conviction. The state is leading in the country for charging kids as adults in legal processes. These things are determined by voting at a local level, she explains, not at the presidential level. Click on the audio player to hear more in this exclusive interview from “Get Up!
