Many things that happen in life are things that we didn’t plan. Some of them are downright dreadful. If you allow yourself, you can fall into a deep depression just thinking about the ‘bad luck’ that has befallen you, particularly what you had NO control over. Here is what success coach and expert Brian Tracy suggests: simply say ‘I’m Responsible’. WHAT? I’m not responsible for my car door getting dinged by the grocery cart! I’m not responsible for my spouse cheating on me! I’m not responsible for my loved one getting cancer, how DARE you say that! Well, let’s look at the definition of responsible. It means being accountable for your actions and decisions. As licensed therapist Robin May says, ‘you can’t always choose your circumstances, but you can choose your actions TO those circumstances.’ Whenever negative things arise, say to yourself, I am responsible. I can choose whether to pout or take it as a teaching moment. I can choose to cuss ’em out or pray for them. I’m response-able. I am ABLE to choose my RESPONSE. Whether you are a vicTIM or a vicTOR lies on affirmatively answering one question. Are you responsible?
Galatians 6:5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct
