Ever since news spread that NBC would be remaking The Wiz for their next live production, fans of the original 1978 film were beyond excited. Now, the network is giving us all a sneak peek of what to expect from the onstage performance by releasing the first trailer. The clip, titled ‘The Wiz Live! – Let’s Hit the Yellow Brick Road!,’ features a first look at the star-studded cast, including Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Shanice Williams, David Alan Grier, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, and Common. The Wiz Live! is slated to air on Thursday, December 3 at 8/7c on NBC. Check out the trailer in the video above.


Six Black Teens Make TIME‘s ’30 Most Influential Teens of 2015’ List

Throughout 2015, there have been several incidents related to racial injustice in our country. Many young African-American entertainers have used their platform to shine a light on these issues. TIME recently recognized six influential Black teenagers for their “30 Most Influential Teens of 2015” list. Those selected include 13-year-old entrepreneur Moziah Bridges, 17-year-old actress Amandla Stenberg, Jaden Smith, Malia Obama, singer Silentó, and Zendaya Coleman. “I am really proud of the fact that I’m able to use people knowing my name and knowing who I am for good things, whether it’s a simple tweet or a paragraph about how something made me feel,” Coleman told TIME. “With this platform, I’m able to work on so much charity, I’ve been able to do so many cool projects and get people donating through their phone. I think that’s really cool, using myself to promote things other than myself.” Read more.


UK to Remove Names from College and Job Applications to Combat Racial Bias

The UK is taking a major step towards addressing racial bias when it comes to college and job applications. British Prime Minister David Cameron recently announced that in 2017, names will be left off both college and job applications to prevent racial stereotyping. “We have managed to get some of the biggest graduate employers to pledge to anonymise their job applications – in other words, make them name-blind. That means those assessing applications will not be able to see the person’s name, so the ethnic or religious background it might imply cannot influence their prospect,” said Prime Minister Cameron. “Today’s announcement… means that a young black woman knows she’ll get a fair shot when she applies for the job of her dreams.” Read more.


Forest Whitaker to Star in Film About Archbishop Desmond Tutu

Actor Forest Whitaker will be starring in an upcoming film about African social rights leader Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The project, titled The Archbishop and the Antichrist, will capture a fictional encounter between Tutu and a White South African murderer named Piet Blomfield. The individuals that Tutu worked with as part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission will also be featured in the film. The Archbishop and the Antichrist was written by Roland Joffé and will also star Vince Vaughn. It will be produced by Craig Baumgarten and Kim Ashton. Read more.
