Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz found himself in hot water after making insensitive remarks about Vice President Joe Biden just days after his son passed away. During a Livingston County, Michigan Republican Party dinner on Wednesday, he shared the distasteful joke about Biden before a crowd of 650 GOP members. “Vice President Joe Biden, you know the nice thing? You don’t need a punch line,” said Sen. Cruz. “The next party you’re at, just walk up to someone and say, ‘Vice President Joe Biden’ and just close your mouth. They will crack up laughing.” Cruz has come out and apologized for his remarks. “It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize,” he said in a statement. “The loss of his son is heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with the Vice President and his family.” Read more.


Bipartisan Justice Reform Slated to Come to Fruition this Month

A new bipartisan bill that concerns criminal justice is slated to come to fruition this month. The new bill will end mandatory minimum sentencing in an effort to lower the rate of incarceration. The issue was laid out on the table during the first congressional hearing about policing following the Michael Brown incident in Missouri. The legislation is being sponsored by Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI). They both participate in the Over Criminalization Task Force along with several other Republican and Democratic representatives. Read more.


Disney to Remake “Sister Act”

In 1992, the movie Sister Act made its debut and became a classic. Now, more than 20 years after the movie came out, writers and directors are trying to give it new life. According to reports, Disney will remake the movie. Alli Shearmur, who helmed the live-production of Cinderella, will also produce the remake. Kristen “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah have signed on to write the script. There have been no details on when the movie will be released and whether Whoopi Goldberg will play a role in the new film.
