Ever since she stepped into the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama has emerged as a fashion icon. Although she’s surrounded by stylish celebrities at star-studded White House events, she always manages to be the center of attention. Selma DVD to be distributed at every high school in the country…

The film Selma captured the essence of a pivotal time in American history, and now director Ava DuVernay’s piece of work will be shown in classrooms throughout the country. At a recent United Nations event, DuVernay announced that every public and private high school will receive a free Selma DVD. There will also be companion study guides for educators who decide they want to teach lessons surrounding the movie in their classrooms. These efforts are part of the “Selma for Students” project. “With many of these students preparing to vote for the first time in next year’s elections,” said Paramount executive Megan Colligan. “It is especially fitting that they witness the bravery and fortitude of those who fought to establish the Voting Rights Act of 1965.” Read more.

30,000 stranded after deadly Nepal earthquake…

People in Nepal are dealing with the aftermath of the deadly earthquake that took place on Saturday. Over 3,500 people lost their lives, 6,500 were injured, and 30,000 people are left stranded. Many people are staying in makeshift shelters for survival, while the government is hard at work trying to seek supplies. “We are appealing for tents, dry goods, blankets, mattresses, and 80 different medicines… that we desperately need now,” said rescue coordinator Lila Mani Poudyal. “We don’t have the helicopters that we need or the expertise to rescue the people trapped.” Read more.

Christian Louboutin creates nude pumps for women of color

Last year, a lingerie line called Nubian Skin made headlines for creating nude undergarments that complimented the skin tones of women of color, and now a luxury shoe brand is jumping on board. Last week, Christian Louboutin released two new colors as part of their “nude” collection, in efforts to compliment women with darker skin tones. A company spokeswoman said that “the collection is intended to offer more women the possibility of owning a pair of shoes that would closely match the color of their skin.” The shoes, which cost about $700 a pair, will be available next year.
