A jury has found 11 of 12 defendants guilty in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating trial. Only former Dobbs Elementary School teacher Dessa Curb was found not-guilty on all counts.
The convictions included racketeering for allegedly cheating on standardized test. The verdicts were mixed for the lesser felonies, with some defendants being found not-guilty and some being found guilty. The verdict comes 7 years after an investigation by the Atlanta Journal Constitution revealed widespread cheating in the APS system.
All those convicted were led out of the courtroom in handcuffs and taken directly to the Fulton County jail. They all face long sentences when they are sentenced April 13 at 10 am. While 21 others had already pleaded guilty to lesser charges, the other felony charges could each bring 5 to 10 years in prison for each count.
