Akai Gurley’s (pictured below) partner, Kimberly Ballinger, says she is confident that the Brooklyn D.A. will bring justice to her family, the New York Daily News reports.

“We have faith in Ken Thompson (pictured top, right of center),” said Ballinger who had two daughters with Gurley, after meeting with him Tuesday.

While we understand that the public has lost a lot of faith with the justice system due to the recent findings in Ferguson and Staten Island, “[We] have complete and full faith in [Thompson’s] investigation in to this matter,” added Scott Rynecki, Ballinger’s lawyer, after the meeting.

dimly lit stairwell, Liang accidentally fired his pistol, fatally hitting Gurley in the chest.

According to reports, Liang texted his union boss for six minutes following the shooting, instead of immediately calling 911.

The killing launched discussion about how the NYPD treats residents in public housing; some are even questioning whether police housing patrols violate the Fourth Amendment.

A grand jury will convene soon to hear evidence related to the shooting, and just this week, the Justice Department declined to pursue charges against Darren Wilson, the officer who fatally shot Michael Brown last year.
