Although it doesn’t feel like it, spring is here! It’s taking a while for the temperatures to heat up, but the warm weather will be here before you know it. As the seasons change it’s a good idea to switch some things up in your natural hair regimen. Here’s how you can start to give your hair routine a spring-cleaning!
Protein treat, deep conditioner, and trim hair
Start with cleaning up shop. It was a rough winter for most regions, so harsh temperatures probably did a number on your hair. When the weather breaks, go all out and give yourself a protein treatment, deep conditioner, and a trim. This will set the tone for a new season, plus have your hair feeling and looking great!

Wash hair more often
The warmer it gets, the more you may need to wash your hair. You don’t have to necessarily use shampoo or any other cleanser. Simply rinsing your hair may do the trick. Often times when it gets hot I can re-wet my hair almost every day, but it will depend on how much you sweat and which hair style you choose to wear.
Seal with Aloe Vera
During winter, it’s essential to seal moisture in your hair with a butter or heavy oil. In the warmer months, you might want to put those products to the side, because it might weigh your hair down. Instead, try Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera is a very light moisturizer that can be used as a sealant replacement. Aloe Vera is used in many moisturizer products and is a staple product for many naturals.
Try a wash & go
In the winter months, protective styling is highly recommended. It is great year round, but if you want to try something new, this is the time. Even in the spring and summer I don’t do wash & go often, but I do take advantage of doing without the worry of getting sick, hair completely drying out, or it snagging on a knit scarf.
If you are trying to wean yourself off using heat, do it now. Straightening your hair is the worst idea when it’s hot. At some point your hair will sweat out from the heat, so best you not waste your time or the necessary heat on your strands!
