Leaving the courtroom in tears after a jury could not decide whether or not to charge Michael Dunn, 47, with first-degree murder in the shooting death of their 17 year old son Jordan Davis, Lucia McBath and Ron Davis told reporters that they will never stop fighting for justice for their son.

While McBath was visibly emotionally drained, saying that she would pray for Dunn and continue to wait for justice, the elder Davis reminded reporters that their son was a good kid who deserved the law to protect him.

Saying that it wasn’t in his nature to be stoic but that he was trying to remain calm for his son, Davis said that no child should be collateral damage for discriminatory “Stand Your Ground” laws and that his son’s life mattered:

“[Dunn] is going to learn that he must be remorseful for the killing of my son, that it was not just another day at the office.”

As previously reported by NewsOne, Dunn was found  guilty of 3 counts of attempted second degree murder and one count of hurling a deadly missile.  A mistrial was declared on the first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Jordan Davis.

The jury deliberated for four days and remained deadlocked on the 1st-degree murder charge and lesser charges, including second degree murder, manslaughter, justifiable homicide, or excusable homicide.

Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network, released the following statement after the jury returned the controversial partial verdict:

“We are deeply disappointed by the verdict in the case of Michael Dunn. Though he was convicted for attempted murder and shooting into the car, the value of Jordan Davis’ life was not addressed in this verdict. The mistrial further sends a chilling effect to parents in the twenty-three states that have the Stand Your Ground law or laws similar. It requires the Civil Rights community to head into Florida, which is now ground zero for a National fight to change that law. From Trayvon Martin to Jordan Davis enough is enough. Our National board member Bishop Rudy Mckissick has been in the court room during the trial, including tonight representing us and supporting the family; sharing with them our prayers as we join them in pursuing justice and the ending the Stand Your Ground law.”

Florida state special prosecutor Angela Corey said that Dunn will be retried on the first-degree murder charge for Jordan Davis’ death.

“We intend to fully push for a new trial….Justice for Jordan Davis is as important as it is for any victim,” said Corey.
