Do you want to see the ladies at Spelman go after a Guinness World Record?

It’s Founders Day at Spelman, and it’s going to be a pretty interesting day. Spelman is one of the most prestigious historically black colleges in the country and today it’s celebrating its 130 year Anniversary and its legacy of academic excellence and service. .

Today’s festivities begin with the traditional Founders Day Convocation which includes a performance by singer and Tony Award winning actress, Jennifer Holliday. Other notable participants include: Kenny Leon, director of the True Colors Theatre Company; Lamman Rucker, actor, Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns”; and Dawn Lewis, actress, star of “A Different World”.  This program will be streamed live at www.spelman.edu.  

At noon, the celebration continues with an exciting attempt to break into the Guinness Book World Record for having the most people dancing with hula hoops at one time. Students, faculty and staff will pick up the giant circles on the Spelman Oval and go for it.  This event is in support of First Lady, Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” Campaign.

Later at 7:30 this evening, Spelman College President, Beverly Daniel Tatum will have an open conversation with legendary singer and songwriter, Stevie Wonder. They will focus on his journey as a musical artist, humanitarian and businessman.
