Gospel great Mavis Staples performed her heart out on the stage of Conan O Brien’s late night talk show. Mavis has been on the show a few times.
On February 13, 2011, Mavis Staples won her first Grammy award in the category for Best Americana Album for ‘You Are Not Alone’. In her acceptance speech, a shocked and crying Staples said “This has been a long time coming”
It is an exciting time for the legend who continues to sing God’s praises.Mavis Staples has had a very good year. In September the former Staples Singer vocalist released You Are Not Alone, which she recorded with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy. It won a Grammy for Best Americana Album. She also sang for Paul McCartney at the Kennedy Center honors, and for Jon Stewart at the Rally to Restore Sanity.
