A Christian blogger is receiving a lot of attention for a fashion choice. She may have used the follwing as reflection for her choice:

Matthew 5:28 ESV But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Veronica Partridge says she has decided to stop wearing leggings or yoga pants to honor God.

In a blog post, she says “When women wear them it creates a stronger attraction for a man to look at a woman’s body and may cause them to think lustful thoughts.”

Partridge says she spoke with her husband, who admitted that it is hard not to look at women wearing leggings.

“If it is difficult for my husband who loves, honors, and respects me to keep his eyes focused ahead, then how much more difficult could it be for a man that may not have the same self-control? Sure, if a man wants to look, they are going to look, but why entice them? Is it possible that the thin, form-fitting yoga pants or legging could make a married (or single) man look at a woman in a way he should only look at his wife?” her post says.

Here is what she and her husband said on Good Morning America:

Her post has sparked a large discussion on social media.

Many agree with Partridge, saying women should be modest and save their bodies for their spouses.

“Thank you for your post on leggings. I totally agree. I am also a Christian and knowing how men deal with the “lust of the eye” problem, it should be our responsibility as women to be a help by not dressing that continually puts men in that situation. I know you are dealing with backlash on this. But thank you for your strength and faith and for not giving in to the nay sayers. Praying for your continued strength in this situation. Please keep posting.. awesome! God Bless You,” Jolene Smith wrote.

Others disagree, saying women shouldn’t have to cover themselves because of a wandering eye.

“I think it is silly to make women responsible for men’s lustful glares. Leggings or not men will look. It is up to those prospective men to control themselves. I think this kind of thinking is a bit backwards. It is like blaming a woman’s outfit for her being violated. Men are responsible for their own behavior,” Faith Roberts said.
