When you marry a person, you marry their past, present and future. Too many of us get married off of the present alone. That’s why marriage can’t be entered into lightly. You have to have the foresight to know where that person is GOING and determine if you are interested in going in the same direction. Life happens and some things change along the way (physical appearance, financial status , birth of children, death of relatives etc.), but if you both are committed to going in the same direction you’re more likely to make it. Pastor Hart Ramsey says it best, ‘The number 1 rule in having a successful marriage is to pick a direction and commit to travelling together’. If you’re considering marriage, remember this, it’s not just where they are now that matters. You have to know where they’re going. Otherwise you could have a beautiful present, but a miserable future.
Amos 3:3 – Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?
