White Teens Hang ‘N-gga We Made It!’ Signs To Celebrate Graduation

While seniors all over the country are planning their end-of-the-year pranks, a group of teens at South Forsyth High School (SFHS) in Georgia found a way to be both stupid and racially offensive all at once. Apparently inspired by Drake’s “We Made It” (or maybe they’ve been hanging with Gwyneth Paltrow), the kids hung a giant banner stating, “N-gga we made it 2k14” from the side of the school and scrawled the message across several windows around the school. Read more.

In About Face, Google To Release Diversity Stats

Google is planning to release statistics documenting the diversity of its workforce for the first time amid escalating pressure on the technology industry to hire more minorities and women. The numbers are compiled as part of a report that major U.S. employers must file with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Employers, though, aren’t required to make the information publicly available. Google Inc. had resisted previous calls for it to share the diversity data. Read more.

School Segregation Across The Country Proves Students Are Still Separate

While many of the major gains in the South since the Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education have been reversed in recent years, a new report says that, at the very least, things are not as bad as they were before the court ruled to desegregate U.S. schools. “Contrary to many claims, the South has not gone back to the level of segregation before Brown. It has lost all of the additional progress made after l967 but is still the least segregated region for black students,” says the report, released Thursday by researchers at UCLA’s Civil Rights Project. Read more.

NIH Gives Clark Atlanta $7.4 Million for Cancer Research

Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta was awarded a $7.4 million renewal grant for the Center for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Development (CCRTD). The five-year grant, which was awarded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), a component of the National Institutes of Health, supports cancer research infrastructure including technical research core laboratories and funding for the recruitment of researchers and for pilot studies. Read more.

Mother and Son Earn College Degrees Together

The Williams family will be celebrating two graduates this year.Aaron Williams, 22 and his mother Tonya Williams, 48, will both receive bachelor’s degrees from Chicago State University this Thursday. According to DNAinfo Chicago, mother and son took different paths that lead them to this year’s graduation.Tonya Williams will graduate with a 3.4 and a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Ms. Williams entered Chicago State in 1983 and intended to become a nurse. She finished one semester before leaving to have her eldest son, Kenny. Read more.

Family outraged: police officer allegedly kicked handcuffed teen

One South Florida police officer is in hot water after video surfaced that appears to show him kicking a handcuffed teen, causing him to fall to the ground. The incident began when 13-year-old Kevens Jean Baptiste was kicked off his school bus for putting down a window. The teen told NBC Miami that a fellow student had sprayed perfume, and he put down the winder even though he was told not to because he was having trouble breathing. Read more.
