Vashti Lindsay says she was standing on the curb with her son, Caleb, (pictured) and daughter, Myeria, waiting to cross Tucker Norcross Road, in Tucker, Ga., when a pickup truck jumped the curb and struck her children.
Watch Lindsey speak about her children here:
“After he realized that he hit my kids I said, ‘Please sir, stop, stop, stop,’” she said. “He kept flying like he didn’t care.” Two-year-old Caleb succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Four-year-old Myeria sustained a broken arm and scrapes to her face.
“It’s too much for me,” Lindsay added. “If anybody has anything please help me, please help me.”
According to a witness, the person behind the wheel briefly stopped to throw a beer bottle from the vehicle before speeding away. Linsday says she is desperate to find the driver.
“I can’t get this scene of what he did to my children out of my head,” she said. “It’s like a life and death situation that this guy gets caught for the sake of my son who is a two year old innocent baby who didn’t deserve to get hit like that.”
County investigators managed to locate a surveillance video from a nearby shopping center showing the truck just before the hit-and-run. They describe the vehicle as a white 2007-2009 Toyota Tacoma with a camper on the back.
“Not that many out there now have camper shells on the back, so that should also stand out to the public,” said Captain Steven Fore.
Anyone with any information is urged to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477. The family has also created a fund to finance the boy’s funeral expenses. You can donate to the “Caleb Lindsay” fund at any Wells Fargo bank.
