We’ve heard this observation for years…WHY is Sunday Morning the most segregated day of the week?
I’d like to extend the observation and mention that not only is it the most segregated day of the week, but it’s one of the most divided concepts among a people that should be the most progressively united…
With diversity being an initiative in the workplace, in politics, in media and entertainment, how does the church being segregated translate unification in our society? What does this say about the church claiming One God, One Faith, One Baptism? Why we are STILL Not United as One?
Dr. Martin Luther King was quoted as saying “It is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is 11 o’clock on Sunday morning…,” back in 1963. Sadly, 50 years later, the church remains overwhelmingly racially divided. Statistics show that 5% to 7.5% of churches in the U.S. are considered to be racially diverse, interpreting that at least 20% of a church’s members don’t belong to the predominant racial group there.
Here is a thought to ponder….”We are the Salt of the Earth” segregation causes us to lose our savor resulting in minimal effectiveness in our society.
