A new Cheerios commercial featuring a biracial couple and child has sparked much racism.
The commercial features a young biracial girl pouring cheerios on to her African-American father’s chest while he is sleeping because her mother who is Caucasian confirms to her that cheerios are good for the heart.
Negative and racially charged comments flooded the comment section on the commercial’s YouTube site. General Mills Cereal had to disable the comment section on YouTube to prevent such criticism
“The comments that were made in our view were not family-friendly, and that was really the trigger for us, you know, to pull them off,’’ said Camille Gibson, VP marketing for General Mills.
Despite of the negative backlash, General Mills refuses to stop running the ad.
