Many celebrities and public figures are taking to Twitter to announce very personal things happening in their lives.

The latest is CNN anchor Don Lemon who recently tweeted that he’s gay to his close to 90,000 followers. Lemon made the announcement before his book Transparent hits shelves on June 16.

Lemon said that while many of his close friends and colleagues knew, he was still a bit scared to go public with his sexual identity because of the stigma in the black community.

“It’s quite different for an African-American male,” he said. “It’s about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You’re taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In the black community they think you can pray the gay away.”
