Kerry Washington Stars In New ABC Series “Scandal” [TRAILER]

Kerry Washington stars in ABC’s new television series “Scandal,” created by Shonda Rhimes of “Grey’s Anatomy” fame. She stars as Olivia Pope, a professional crisis manager who formerly worked for the President as his media relations consultant.

Here’s a quick synopsis: “Pope dedicates her life to protecting and defending the public images of our nation’s elite. After leaving the White House, the power consultant opened her own firm, hoping to start a new chapter—both professionally and personally—but she can’t seem to completely cut ties with her past.”

The series is based on real-life Washington-based PR guru Judy Smith – former White House press aide under President George H. Bush, who also counseled Monica Lewinsky and Michael Vick, and worked on the prosecution of former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry.

Love her. We will definitely be giving this show a chance.

The wait is nearly over for season 3 of Basketball Wives, and we have a preview of the next season which introduces the newest wife (yes, an actual wife) Meeka Claxton of retired NBA player Speedy Claxton. Tami and Evelyn are still going at it, Jen files for divorce, Evelyn & Chad are trying to get knocked up, Royce has a new boo, Evelyn shows her emotional side , a new wife brings more drama, Evelyn and Royce throw down and Shaunie is still trying to be peace maker.

The season starts May 30th.

Beyonce was spotted at Hubbard Street Dance Studio in Chicago rehearsing for the Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular taping. The queen of daytime will end her 25-year run as the reigning champ with a big finale on May 25. Taping for the May 23 and 24 shows took place last night at the United Center in Chicago.

A bevy of stars were spotted in and around the city and studio. According to RadarOnline, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were seen having dinner on Monday night, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett checked into a downtown Chicago hotel and Usher is also in town and there’s word that stars such as Julia Roberts, Jen Aniston, Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Halle Berry, Rascal Flatts, Dakota Fanning, Tyler Perry, Dave Chappelle, U2 and John Travolta are all going to be a part of the show too.

Wearing a tuxedo leotard, the singer performed “Run the World (Girls)” with a stage full of backup dancers. Her performance was taped twice to get more angles of the performance to the delight of the crowd.Take a look at Beyonce’s going in hard at the rehearsal:

Lauryn Hill honored her father-in-law, the late Bob Marley, on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” last night. Wednesday, May 11, marked the 30th anniversary of his death.

Lauryn, who is married and has five children with Marley’s son Rohan, sang Bob’s classics “Chances Are” and “Could You Be Loved.”

“Jumping The Broom” actress Angela Bassett has confirmed rumors that the entire cast will be reuniting for a sequel to the 1995 film “Waiting To Exhale.” Bassett appeared on “The Talk” yesterday and said: “It’s preliminary but it’s going to happen, Waiting to Exhale 2.” “She (McMillan) wrote Getting to Happy and she’s written the screenplay… Loretta, Lela, Whitney, Forest. Forest is working on the script now.”

Beyonce Releases Charity Single “God Bless USA”

Beyonce released a cover of “God Bless the USA” and will donate the proceeds to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund. The song will debut this evening on “Piers Morgan Tonight,” who just revealed it on Twitter.

Morgan says the singer first recorded “God Bless The USA” in 2008 for President Obama’s campaign, but never released it, but it will be available on iTunes tomorrow.

Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Jill Scott, Kanye West, Charlie Wilson, Chaka Khan, New Edition, and Trey Songz and more are confirmed to appear at the 2011 Essence Music Festival.

“The Essence Music Festival is privileged to have over forty artists spanning the R&B, funk, soul, classics, hip-hop and neo-soul genres gathering to celebrate the Roots of R&B this Fourth of July weekend,” says Essence Communications President Michelle Ebanks. “We are looking forward to three nights of amazing performances, featuring an all-star cast of trailblazers such as El Debarge and New Edition; legends such as Chaka Khan and George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic; and fan favorites like Mary J. Blige and Trey Songz. There will be even more exciting performers announced soon!”
