The cause of death of actor Sherman Hemsley has been revealed.

The actor most famous for playing George Jefferson on “The Jeffersons” died as a result of lung cancer. An autopsy on Hemsley revealed he had a cancerous mass on his lung, according to the El Paso County Texas Medical Examiner.

The primary cause of death is listed as “superior vena cava syndrome,” a complication resulting from a mass on Sherman’s lung.

According to the report, which TMZ obtained a copy of, Sherman had been advised to get chemotherapy and radiation treatment before he succumbed to his illness. It’s unclear if Sherman was a smoker.

Sherman was found dead last month in his El Paso, Texas home at the age of 74.
