First Lady Michelle Obama is coming to Atlanta to celebrate the first anniversary of her campaign to reduce childhood obesity.

Local authorities said motorists should see only minor delays as Obama’s motorcade travels to her two metro Atlanta appearances.

Obama will visit Burgess-Peterson Academy, a public elementary school in East Atlanta, at 1 p.m. Wednesday to tout the school’s work on promoting healthy eating. She also will give a speech at 4 p.m. at North Point Community Church in Alpharetta just north of the city about the work of her “Let’s Move!” campaign.

The speech will be carried live on http://www.letsmove.gov.

The First Lady will be arriving at Dobbins Air Reserve Base and will travel quickly from there to her first appearance at the Burgess-Peterson Academy on Clifton Street in southeast Atlanta. While authorities won’t divulge the motorcade’s route, it will likely travel down I-75 into Atlanta from Marietta, then out I-20 east to the school.

“Any delays for drivers would be very minimal,” Cobb County police spokesman Joe Hernandez told the AJC. “There are no roads drivers need to avoid for this event.”

After her appearance at the school, Obama will travel to the North Point church, which is off North Point Parkway and Old Milton Parkway, just west of Ga. 400. Again, police will not say which roads the motorcade will take, but a likely route would be Ga. 400 north out of Atlanta to Alpharetta.

In the past year, Obama has addressed governors, mayors, school groups, food makers and other constituencies, urging them to build more bike paths and playgrounds, to serve healthier school lunches and to make and sell healthier food. She’s even held an exercise clinic with kids on the White House South Lawn.
