The NCAA has announced that University of Georgia star tailback Todd Gurley must sit out two more games as punishment for accepting money from memorabilia dealers. UGA plans to appeal the decision. If the ruling stands, Gurley would miss this weekend’s game against arch rival Florida and the November 8 game against Kentucky. He would be eligible to return for the monumental matchup against Auburn in Athens on November 15.
The NCAA ruled that Gurley must sit a total of four games, or 30 percent of the season, for accepting more than $3,000 in cash from several people for autographed memorabilia. Gurley has already missed games against Missouri and Arkansas, both of which UGA won. Gurley will also be required to repay a portion of the money he received to a charity of his choice and must complete 40 hours of community service.
Gurley was a leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy and was leading the SEC with 773 rushing yards and had scored eight touchdowns in the first five games for Georgia. Despite missing the last two games, he still leads the SEC in rushing and touchdowns.
