15-year-old DeKalb teenager, Anthony Stokes, is being denied a heart transplant from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston because of a “history of non-compliance.”

According to family members, Stokes does not qualify for a heart transplant because of his low grades and run-ins with the law.

“They said they don’t have any evidence that he would take his medicine or that he would go to his follow-ups,” said Melencia Hamilton, Stokes’ mother.

Hamilton says that Stokes does not have any medical history.

According to Hamilton, doctors aren’t confident that Stokes will take the necessary medications or attend follow-up visits that are imperative for any transplant.

Stokes has been in the hospital since July 14 and is likely to be sent home soon with medication; doctors say that he will have about six months to live.

UPDATED: Anthony Stokes has just been added to the waiting list for a heart transplant.
